As a CleanPowerSF customer, you are already enjoying the benefits of powering your home with clean energy, like wind and solar. You can take it a step further by electrifying your home by replacing your gas appliances with clean, safe, efficient electric appliances.

Why Electrify?

• Health: Gas appliances can release harmful pollutants into your home, which can be toxic to people and pets.

• Safety: Gas is highly flammable, and gas lines in your home can become a safety hazard if there is an earthquake or fire.

• Climate: Gas use in buildings is responsible for more than one-third of San Francisco’s greenhouse gas emissions, which contribute to global climate change.

• Performance: Electric alternatives such as heat pumps and induction stoves are far more efficient than their gas-fired counterparts and offer outstanding performance and reliability. They are also a requirement in most new homes.

Bill Credits, Tax Credits, and other Incentives

Now is a great time to start electrifying your home and CleanPowerSF is here to help. 

CleanPowerSF’s new Water Heater Upgrade Program will reward you with $50-per-month bill credits for two years when you upgrade to a heat pump water heater and are working to add more appliance types to the program. 

For those that qualify, San Francisco Environment Department’s Climate Equity Hub can help you qualify for free upgrades. 

Statewide programs from TECH Clean California, Golden State Rebates, and Energy Smart Homes provide a variety of incentives for heat pumps when you replace your gas water heater or gas furnace. 

Federal Tax Credits can cover 30% (up to $2,000) of your costs however act now because these  federal tax credits are expiring in 2025.
