Get Energized and Take Action this Climate Action Month

It’s Climate Action Month! This April, show your love for the Earth and our City by making simple lifestyle changes that benefit the planet and YOU! A “zero emission” lifestyle or sustainability journey can seem out of reach or daunting, but the truth is that making sustainability swaps doesn’t have to be difficult or costly. Small changes can make a big difference. Here are simple actions you can take when it comes to clean energy for you and your family.

  1. Break Up with Gas!

End your toxic relationship and move on with clean, all-electric appliances. If you are a CleanPowerSF customer, you are already enjoying the benefits of powering your home with clean energy, like wind and solar. You can take it a step further by electrifying your home, which means replacing gas appliances with clean, safe, efficient electric appliances.

  2. Upgrade to 100% Renewable Energy

Fight climate change and help your San Francisco community by upgrading to CleanPowerSF’s 100% renewable energy service: SuperGreen. By choosing SuperGreen, CleanPowerSF customers are helping to support new clean energy infrastructure, green jobs, and community investment. The best news? It is now cheaper than ever to upgrade. For the average single-family home, SuperGreen costs about $3 more per month. Upgrading takes less than five minutes, and you can do it right now online! Check out: cleanpowersf.org/supergreen

  3. Take Zero-Emission Trips

Walk, run, jog, bike, catch a zero-emission taxi ride, or leave the driving to the real professionals, shoutout to our SF Muni operators! Did you know that Muni contributes less than 1% of San Francisco’s greenhouse gases? That’s because it’s powered by Hetch Hetchy Power, of course. Getting more people out of cars and riding clean, zero-emission modes of transit is essential to combating climate change. This month, take an extra walk or bike trip, and know you’re doing your part to reduce tailpipe emissions and improve the air we breathe!

  4. Reduce Your Energy Use

Reducing how much energy we use is just as important as getting energy from cleaner sources. By making smart energy decisions at home, you can reduce the amount of energy you use, lower your electricity bill, and help your family, the environment, and your community. The less energy we use (just like water) means we conserve our clean energy “tap” for when we really need it. Simpe things like using smart power strips, replacing light bulbs with LEDs, or washing your clothes in cold water, when possible, can help make a difference.

  5. Swap out those old lightbulbs for LEDs

When you switch to energy-efficient lighting, you can light your home using the same amount of light for less money. LEDs use up to 90% less energy and last up to 25 times longer than traditional incandescent bulbs. By using LED’s, we are helping to conserve energy and reduce the need to replace bulbs as quickly (oh, and here’s a tip for how to properly recycle your old lightbulbs too).

To meet San Francisco’s climate action goals, we all can do our part. The SFPUC’s clean energy programs, CleanPowerSF and Hetch Hetchy Power, provide renewable power for more than 385,000 customers, helping to reduce carbon emissions and increase access to reliable, affordable clean energy. Our programs also offer discounts for 100% renewable energy for customers with low-incomes and rebates to replace fossil fuel powered appliances. These efforts will help the City make further progress in reaching its goals, including achieving net-zero emissions by 2040.

Your choice makes a difference, so thank you for joining us in taking action for our communities, our environment, and our City. Thank you for choosing CleanPowerSF as your clean energy provider, San Francisco!
